- Next, choose what kind of user you are!
After you've completed the first few steps to sign up to Hacker Noon, simply choose I just wanna read, and you will see 3 sample stories that will be included in your Tech Brief.

Reader Flow:
When signing up as a Reader, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Select the Tech Categories you wish to subscribe to and see examples of stories related to each category.
- Select the newsletters you want to subscribe to, with testimonials from our users that you can read on the right side of the screen.
After sign-up, an automatic handle will be created for you. If you want to complete your onboarding later, you can return to the app.hackernoon.com/profile page anytime.

Staying true to our policy, anyone around the web can read our stories without any conditions. However, if they wish to interact with HackerNoon stories, via bookmark, comment, annotate, react, flag, among other actions - or write a new one - they need to have an account.
With this in mind, our developers have modified the way HackerNoon prompts you to create an account - let's examine how it works:
- You're engrossed in a story;
- You desire to make an annotation on that particular story, so you select that option;
- You get redirected to the sign-up page and asked to input an email and password;
- Upon reading, you click the terms and policies checkbox;
- Voila! You're assigned a handle and guided back to the action you intended to perform before encountering the sign-up page.
This doesn't mean you can't pick your handle later or select the tags most related to your interests. These options are still available on your profile page settings and will always be throughout your time with HackerNoon.
